Rheinmetall has received another order from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense for the supply of modern medical equipment for field operations: The company will supply two rescue stations for mounted operations.

According to the company, the two systems procured as part of the German government’s upgrade initiative have an order value in the high single-digit million euro range and are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024 respectively. Rheinmetall had already been commissioned to supply a Role 2 hospital at the end of 2022. https://militaeraktuell.at/die-lancet-krise-der-ukrainer/ The containerized rescue station for mounted operations is known as the “Forward Surgical Team (FST)”. It consists of three vehicle combinations, each with a truck and a trailer, as well as a total of six containers. The five containers, which are connected and expandable when in operation, include a reception and triage area, an X-ray shelter, a surgical preparation area, a surgical shelter and an intensive care unit. The supply container with power generator and water tanks can supply the system self-sufficiently for at least 48 hours. The system is turnkey and equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology. Major components such as the high-performance X-ray machine are supplied by Siemens Healthineers, a strategic partner of Rheinmetall.

@RheinmetallThe so-called FSTs are intended for “Damage Control Surgery (DCS)”. As part of this, life-sustaining measures can be carried out on the severely wounded within a very short time during a frontline operation. The patients are stabilized and prepared for transport to medical units providing further treatment, such as a Role 2 or Role 3 field hospital or an inpatient facility. On the one hand, the set-up operation enables rapid operational readiness thanks to short set-up times and, on the other, the ability to react and deploy quickly in changing front-line scenarios.
