The types and number of unmanned aerial vehicles used on the battlefield are constantly increasing. They need to be repaired and maintained.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has now codified and approved the operation of domestically produced mobile workshops in units of the Ukrainian armed forces. They are designed for the repair and maintenance of unmanned aerial systems and equipment.
The main objective is to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces for effective repair and restoration of a wide range of Ukrainian-made unmanned aerial systems on the ground.
The curator of the new development is the Main Directorate for Defense Innovations of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.
“Our armed forces have golden hands, but we also know that they are forced to repair aircraft under difficult conditions in the field. To make this process more convenient and efficient, we want to improve the working conditions of the craftsmen. The novelty will reach the front line only if the wishes of those who will use it are taken into account,” commented Lieutenant Colonel Yevheniy Tkachenko, Head of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Department of the Main Directorate of Defense Innovations.
A container that can be transported by truck serves as the basis for the workshop. It has autonomous heating, lighting, air conditioning and ventilation systems as well as its own 11 kW power supply system, communication devices and dual-band router.
Inside, there are workstations for craftsmen with the necessary shelves and containers. This makes it possible to repair drones almost anywhere in the country and in any weather.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, various versions of the workshops are planned or already in use. The basic modification is only equipped with the simplest tools. The full version, called “Nebokray 01”, has a wider range of equipment and special tools: a charging station, a compressor, a pulsed laboratory power supply, a welding machine, a soldering station, a tin extractor, an ultrasonic bath with liquid degassing function, a 3D printer, a filament dryer, a personal computer, wireless barcode readers, grinding and engraving machines, an FPV monitor, a high-frequency signal power meter and other equipment.
Mobile racks and shelves for tools and equipment are also installed, which can be easily dismantled and taken outside.
It is also possible to divide the cabin into zones in order to separate areas with increased pollutant emissions.
