The Salzburg Military Command celebrated its Tradition Day on Thursday with a ceremonial military act at the Pass-Lueg Monument, which was erected in honor of Joseph Struber. The Tradition Days have a special meaning for the Austrian Armed Forces as traditions play a central role in shaping identity and conveying values. Representatives of traditional associations and former service personnel took part in the event.
Brigadier Peter Schinnerl, the military commander of Salzburg, emphasized in his speech that military virtues such as solidarity, mutual aid and trust, which have been practiced in the Austrian armies for centuries, are still fundamental to the tradition and cohesion of the army today. “Maintaining tradition is very important for us soldiers – I am convinced of that. Carrying on the values and spirit of our predecessors must be important to us,” said Schinnerl.
The Salzburg Military Command has been upholding the traditions of Salzburg’s regiments since 1967, i.e. for 57 years. These include Infantry Regiment No. 12 (Rainer) and Light Artillery Regiment No. 8 from the First Republic as well as the Salzburg Volunteer Riflemen, Infantry Regiment No. 59 “Archduke Rainer” and the Tyrolean Imperial Rifle Regiment from the Imperial and Royal Army. Army. These traditions are kept alive as part of the Austrian Armed Forces through regular events and commemorations.
