The aim of the exhibition is to raise awareness of the importance of cultural heritage protection and to contribute to active participation. It is also intended to make an important contribution to the sustainable preservation of cultural heritage and to strengthening the perception of Austria as a cultural nation. This initiative is a cooperation between the Center for People-Oriented Leadership and Defense Policy of the National Defense Academy and the Austrian Society for the Protection of Cultural Property.

“The protection of our cultural heritage is not only a question of history, but also an obligation for our future. Especially in uncertain times, we should take this responsibility particularly seriously,” said Governor Thomas Stelzer in a statement.

Military Commander Brigadier Dieter Muhr added: “There are 20 defined cultural assets in Upper Austria: these include, for example, the Mariendom in Linz, the old town ensemble in Steyr and Reichersberg Abbey. Wherever possible, these objects are left out of military planning in Upper Austria. Cultural assets are part of our identity and we respect that. As the military commander of Upper Austria, I am supported by two cultural property protection officers from the militia who advise me when I am deployed. It is important to me that the protection of cultural property is brought closer to a broader public and I am delighted about this exhibition.”
