Innsbruck Airport organized a festival with attractions for the public, especially for families, on the national holiday. For around 30,000 technology enthusiasts of all ages, a wide range of aviation activities were presented from 10:00 to 17:00. The Austrian Armed Forces were also represented on the tarmac with a number of aircraft.

The C-130 Hercules transport aircraft in its matt gray livery and the fiery orange Pilatus PC-7 of the Austrian Armed Forces were particularly popular. Thousands of visitors were willing to wait a long time to take a look inside the cockpit and cargo hold of the Hercules and to receive information from the pilots and on-board technicians. The crews of the Agusta Bell 212 helicopter and the D40 light aircraft were similarly popular. The Alouette III helicopter was also of great interest to the public, as it is known to many people for its assistance flights over the Tyrolean mountains. The highlight of the airport festival in Innsbruck was a flyover by two Saab 105 OE jet aircraft.

The Director of Innsbruck Airport, Marco Pernetta, on the Austrian Armed Forces as a partner at the airport festival: “I would like to emphasize that the Austrian Armed Forces are also an important and competent partner for us outside of this festival. In particular, I must mention the cooperation in airspace security at the annual World Economic Summit in Davos.” Numerous institutions of the state of Tyrol, emergency services and security-related associations were represented at the “Open Day” in the Tyrolean State House. The Tyrolean Military Command and the Austrian Armed Forces also presented their operational capabilities. The Ulan infantry fighting vehicle, the Greif armored recovery vehicle, the Husar multi-purpose vehicle and the Dingo armored medical vehicle were on display.
