In order to improve the situation, a personnel offensive was launched three years ago, which is now visibly bearing fruit. In 2024, for example, significantly more personnel were recruited in several areas than in previous years.
“The personnel offensive, which has now been running for three years, has produced positive effects in many areas,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner in a recent press release from the Austrian Armed Forces. “The acquisition of modern equipment has also made the Armed Forces more attractive again as an employer. Of course, we still have a lot of work ahead of us and areas where it is often very difficult. This is precisely why it is important to me to create the best possible framework conditions for our staff. This represents a doubling compared to previous years. With the admission of more than 600 civilian employees, an increase of over 30 percent was achieved compared to previous years. 250 women took advantage of the voluntary basic military service in 2024; of these, 150 are still serving.
