The defense company Thales is supplying Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact (GM200 MM/C) radars to Lithuania. The Lithuanian Defense Materiel Agency (DMA) has signed a corresponding contract with the Dutch procurement agency COMMIT – this is a government-to-government sale.
The GM200 MM/C offers precise detection, tracking and classification of all threats, including drones. Thanks to the new generation of 4D AESA technology (Active Electronically Scanned Array – a two-axis multi-beam that offers unlimited flexibility in beam control in elevation and bearing), radar operators have more time to gather as much information as possible about incoming threats. The system automatically detects tracks, classifies aircraft, missiles, helicopters, multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and rockets, artillery and mortars (RAM), making it suitable for weapon location and air defense. https://militaeraktuell.at/neue-investitionen-in-die-ab212-helis-geplant/ The GM200 MM/C is also cyber-secure and benefits from software-defined radar technology, enabling future upgrades and capability expansion. In addition, the design of the GM200 MM/C allows the choice between a fixed location and mobile operations, short deployment times and easy transportation. Lithuanian partner ELSIS will support Thales in this project and collaborate on the vehicle integration of the solution. Commenting on the contract, Sigitas Dzekunskas, Director of the Defense Materiel Agency of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, said: “The acquisition and delivery of the Thales GM200 MM/C multi-mission radar is another step towards strengthening the artillery capability of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. In addition, the joint procurement offers many opportunities for increased cooperation with NATO allies in the field of procurement and support.”
