On February 25 and 26, a symposium on “Intellectual National Defense” took place at the University of Education in Salzburg.

The symposium, which was held for the first time, focused on the education of young people with the aim of guaranteeing the basic values of democracy as the basis for all people in Austria to live in peace and freedom. Since summer 2018, experts from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defense have been working on the implementation of spiritual national defense as the basis for reviving the comprehensive national defense enshrined in the Austrian constitution in 1975. Professor Wolfgang Buchberger: “Intellectual national defense is a contribution to the defense of liberal democracy”. Another goal was to network the education directorates of all federal states with those responsible at the military commands. Comprehensive national defense consists of four pillars: Intellectual, civil, economic and military national defense.
