Due to the “tense financial situation”, the Swiss Armed Forces have decided to cancel the major events planned for 2024 and 2025, as well as other events, according to a recent press release. At the end of August this year, the air force was to present itself at “Airspirit 24” at the Emmen military airfield, followed by the ground forces at “Defense 25” in Bière in 2025.

“Public events are of great importance for the army in order to build trust and reputation,” the press release states. It goes on to say: “As it currently trains for its missions mainly at military bases and therefore generally far away from the population, the visibility of the troops is limited. Due to the tight financial situation, the army is now foregoing a significant proportion of the planned public events.” The Swiss Armed Forces had previously expected up to 80,000 visitors to “Airspirit 24”. The Patrouille Suisse would have celebrated its 60th anniversary there and the PC-7 team its 35th anniversary. In addition, the army is also foregoing the organization of a number of other originally planned events in the next two years.
