Rheinmetall has received an order from the Swedish armed forces to supply carrier vehicles for the Patriot air defense missile system manufactured by Rheinmetall’s partner Raytheon.
From the first quarter of 2021, a total of 40 high-mobility HX series trucks from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) are to be delivered, including 16 tractor units and 24 transport vehicles. The order value for these vehicles is in the double-digit million euro range. The Swedish procurement authority FMV has previously procured other HX vehicles from Rheinmetall for its logistics force. The new order from RMMV for the delivery of carrier vehicles for the Patriot air defence system is in line with the vehicle family concept and also underscores the customer’s satisfaction with the proven “military-off-the-shelf” trucks.
The latest HX2 vehicle generation from RMMV meets all the criteria that modern logistics vehicles have to fulfill: Maximum mobility, robustness, versatility and functionality, even in the most adverse road conditions and on the toughest terrain. Protection solutions that can be flexibly equipped to ensure the safety of the crews have also become considerably more important. At the same time, HX2 trucks are among the vehicle types with the most operational experience worldwide: around 10,000 units are in service around the globe. The widespread use of Rheinmetall MAN vehicles brings great advantages in terms of interoperability and logistics, particularly with regard to multinational operations. Current users include Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Denmark. Norway, Sweden and, most recently, Germany have also placed significant orders with Rheinmetall MAN. The order that has now been placed is also the first joint procurement project for Raytheon and Rheinmetall since their teaming in March 2018. Patriot is the backbone of integrated air defence and missile defence for seven NATO countries and is interoperable with seven other partner countries worldwide.
