The Austrian Armed Forces last summer expanded its helicopter helicopter capacities last summer by ordering twelve UH-60M Black Hawks. Sweden has also taken this decision in the past, where the helicopters operate under the name “Helicopter 16”. Against this background, an Austrian delegation recently visited the Swedish helicopter squadron in Linköping to find out about Swedish experiences and to establish a network of contacts for further cooperation, the exchange of exercises and knowledge sharing.
Sweden acquired the Black Hawk in 2011, when 15 helicopters were ordered under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

Austria previously operated an older export variant of the Black Hawk – the S-70A-42 – but the new UH-60Ms represent a technological leap forward. They will be delivered in parallel with Sweden’s additional procurement of further helicopters from the same system family.
The Swedish Air Force writes on the occasion of the visit on LinkedIn“This is a good example of how countries with similar needs can benefit from each other’s experience in order to become operational more quickly.”
