The Slovenian Minister of Defense, Marjan Šarec, signed a contract on June 7 that marks the start of the “Mangart 25” R&D project. In cooperation with a consortium of Slovenian companies, including Valhalla Turrets as the main partner, ASH, Carboteh Technologies and Leokom, Guardiaris will take over the area of air defense.

Over the next 24 months, Guardiaris will be working on the development of a state-of-the-art, lightweight, remote-controlled air defense system. The technological model of the “Mangart 25” will have a range of capabilities. Equipped with a 25 millimetre calibre cannon, it will be able to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles and other air or ground targets at a distance of up to three kilometers. In addition, the system has a 7.62 millimeter machine gun, an electro-optical targeting and observation device and an AESA radar (Active Electronically Scanned Array).

One of the features of “Mangart 25” is its modular design, which is intended to enable integration with other vehicles of the Slovenian armed forces. With minimal adjustments, it can accommodate weapons of different calibers as well as additional subsystems such as laser warning systems, acoustic projectile sensors, anti-tank missile systems, surface-to-air missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. The system can also be enhanced with machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence for advanced target acquisition, identification and tracking systems.

As part of a collaboration, Carboteh Technologies has developed an alarm stimulator for sensors installed in aircraft to warn of missiles, which will be integrated into the “Mangart 25” system. Guardiaris will also develop the digital twin, the system trainer and the simulator for the remote-controlled air defense system.
