SwissP Defence signs a partnership agreement with the French special forces unit GIGN (Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale) at the SOFINS 2025 trade fair for special forces. They are working together on a 6.5 Grendel caliber cartridge.
Known as a precision caliber in the sporting field, 6.5 Grendel is also of interest to special forces. Compared to the NATO standard caliber 5.56×45 millimeters, cartridges in the 6.5 Grendel caliber have a greater operational range with more ballistic power on target. In addition, the cartridge length allows further use of STANAG magazines and the appropriate equipment.
The collaboration between the GIGN (Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale) and the Swiss ammunition manufacturer SwissP Defence aims to offer the special unit high-performance cartridges and customized solutions, according to the company.
Cartridges are developed in the variants Full Metal Jacket (FMJ), Styx Action (with JHP deformation bullet for high stopping power) and Target.
