General Dynamics European Land Systems-Santa Bárbara Sistemas (GDELS-SBS) and KNDS Germany have signed an agreement to cooperate on a possible modernization of the Spanish Army’s Leopard 2E fleet.
As the original manufacturer and design authority of the Leopard 2 main battle tank, KNDS Germany will contribute its technical expertise, while GDELS-Santa Bárbara Sistemas will contribute its industrial capabilities. Together, the partners aim to offer a comprehensive modernization of the Leopard 2E to ensure interoperability with other European Leopard 2 user nations and allies (LEOBEN).
The agreement, which builds on the successful cooperation between the two companies in the original Leopard 2E production program for the Spanish armed forces, was signed at the end of last year but only announced now.
In addition, KNDS and GDELS are working together with the Israeli company Rafael as founding members of Euro Trophy. This German-based joint venture produces the combat-proven Active Protection System (APS) for military vehicles – the Trophy APS, which is now an integral part of the new standard configuration of the German armed forces’ Leopard 2A8.
