Schiebel as a member of the Thales-led SEACURE consortium, has been awarded funding under a European Defense Fund tender for unmanned submarine and seabed warfare solutions.
The SEACURE consortium (Seabed and Anti-Submarine Warfare Capability Through Unmanned Feature for Europe) brings together 35 companies from 13 European countries. The aim is to jointly develop anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and seabed warfare (SBW) capabilities through the use of unmanned air, surface and underwater systems. These are intended to help protect critical maritime infrastructures.
The focus is on the detection, classification, identification and tracking of underwater threats even under challenging conditions.

Specifically, Schiebel’s latest product, the Camcopter S-300 (-> Schiebel presents the bigger brother of the S-100), is to be used as a dedicated Unmanned Air System (UAS) for the SEACURE project. With a maximum take-off weight of 700 kilograms, this results in a mission duration of more than 24 hours with camera and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) or typically six hours with a payload of 250 kilograms. This makes the S-300 the first operational VTOL system in its class to achieve this level of performance.
The SEACURE project is set to culminate in a large-scale trial at sea in 2028.
“Since our first participation in NATO-exercise ‘REPMUS’ in 2022, we have been successfully working with Thales on various ASW solutions for the S-100. Thanks to its longer endurance and higher payload capacity, the S-300 opens up a wide range of new possibilities for anti-submarine warfare and seabed warfare. The SEACURE project fits perfectly with our development strategy for the S-300 and we are proud to be part of this important endeavor,” said Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group.
