On September 24, the Salzburg Military Command celebrated its Tradition Day together with the Salzburg Museum of Military History. Regimental traditions have been cultivated in Salzburg since 1967, i.e. for 58 years, including Infantry Regiment No. 12 “Rainer”, Light Artillery Regiment No. 8 and historical formations from the Imperial and Royal Army. The Armed Forces see the cultivation of tradition not only as a culture of remembrance, but also as the living transmission of military values. Numerous guests of honor, representatives of traditional associations and former service personnel took part in the ceremony in the Panzergarten of the Schwarzenberg barracks. Music was provided by the Militärmusik Salzburg under the direction of military bandmaster Major Johann Schernthanner.
“Maintaining tradition is very important for us soldiers. Carrying on the values and spirit of our predecessors without glorifying or looking backwards must be important to us,” emphasized Salzburg’s military commander Brigadier Peter Schinnerl in his speech.
A highlight of the celebration was the presentation of a certificate to the Salzburg Museum of Military History. The military command thus honored the many years of close cooperation and officially awarded the title “Partner of the Austrian Armed Forces”.
