On July 1, the first Polish SIGINT (Signal Intelligence) ship “ORP Jerzy Różycki” was launched in Gdansk by the Swedish defense company Saab was launched. The ship is the first of two reconnaissance units that Poland is procuring as part of the “DELFIN” program (-> Poland on the way to becoming the strongest army in Europe).
The launch marks a key milestone in the construction construction process, which began in April 2023. Before the ship is officially put into service, it will be equipped with reconnaissance systems and undergo numerous sea trials.
The “ORP Jerzy Różycki” was named after the mathematician of the same name who, together with Marian Rejewski and Henryk Zygalski, made a significant contribution to decoding the German Enigma machine in the interwar period.
“Today’s launch of the ORP Jerzy Różycki symbolizes the power of shared vision and international cooperation,” said Micael Johansson, CEO of Saab. “This project shows how countries with similar security challenges around the Baltic Sea can work together to develop technological solutions to strengthen Europe’s resilience to new threats and protect our societies.”
