The keel laying ceremony for the first of the two ships to be built at Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. in Gdansk took place these days. Saab new Polish signal intelligence ships (SIGINT) ordered from Saab. The event was attended by representatives of the Swedish company, the Polish Defense Agency, the Polish Navy, Remontowa Holding and invited guests.
On November 25, 2022, Saab received an order from the Polish Ministry of Defense for the development and construction of two signal reconnaissance ships for the Polish Navy, including the integration of modern mission systems. Remontowa Shipbuilding SA was commissioned to build the ships in Poland.
A SIGINT ship is used to support the acquisition of intelligence data across the entire spectrum of naval reconnaissance.
“Naval intelligence ship systems are sophisticated platforms that need to be highly reliable and available. Today’s keel laying is an important milestone in the shipbuilding process and we appreciate the cooperation with our Polish customer, the Armaments Agency, the Polish Navy and our partner in this project, Remontowa Holding,” said Mats Wicksell, Senior Vice President and Head of Saab’s Kockums business unit.
