During a troop visit to the Army Troop School on February 1, Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner signed a contract with Saab for the delivery of a further 100 duel simulation systems for the electronically remote-controlled weapon station on the Pandur, Dingo, Husar and Hägglunds armored personnel carriers. The investment amounts to around ten million euros, with delivery of the equipment starting in 2022.
After a short briefing on the wide range of tasks at the training facility by Colonel Dieter Schadenböck, Commander of the Army Staff College, Minister Tanner was able to see the high quality of the operational training during her visit to the troops. During a combat demonstration, soldiers demonstrated their skills; a subsequent exercise evaluation on the duel simulator confirmed the high level of training of the troops.

“Realistic, mission-oriented training is the basis for successful mission accomplishment and the best protection for our soldiers. The investment in new duel simulators ensures that our soldiers are trained even better using a modern system at the electrically remote-controlled weapon stations and can therefore be successful in the field,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner. The duel simulators used are mounted on the original equipment and use lasers to simulate the effect of their own weapon system on another weapon system and vice versa. The weapon effect is simulated in the same way as a live shot, whereby all operating and action sequences, including emergency operation, must be carried out by the weapon/system operator. All movements, processes and activities are recorded electronically and displayed in real time. This enables continuous improvement of combat tactics and techniques.
