The Aerospace, Security and Defense Industries Association of Europe (ASD) has appointed Micael Johansson, CEO of the of the Swedish defense company Saabas the new President and Chairman of the Board.

Johansson, who previously served as Vice Chair of the ASD Board, was elected for a two-year term at the ASD Board meeting and the ASD Convention 2025 in London. He will take office on June 15, 2025. His new role has no impact on his role as President and CEO of Saab.

Turning point for Europe’s security

The appointment comes at a time of growing security challenges for Europe. Johansson takes over the leadership of the association with the aim of promoting innovation, cooperation, sustainability and a common vision for a secure Europe.

“I am honored to take on this position. I will work to ensure that the ASD plays a leading role in strengthening European capabilities and competitiveness,” explained Johansson. And further: “My goal is to further develop the ASD as a driving force to protect the interests of our industry – in line with a strategic direction for the European defense, security and aerospace industry.”

The ASD is the central interest group for the European aerospace, security and defense industry. The association represents over 4,000 companies in 21 European countries and works closely with policy makers and institutions to promote a safe and innovative industrial ecosystem in Europe.
