As reported by Militär Aktuell a few days agothe procurement office of the Bundeswehr and Rosenbauer Deutschland GmbH recently signed a framework agreement for the delivery of up to 60 airfield fire fighting vehicles.

A recent press release states: “The operation of airports in Germany and as part of foreign missions is one of the core capabilities of the Bundeswehr. Domestically, airports are an essential part of the defense strategy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Without the logistical capability of tactical air transport, foreign missions would not be feasible. In addition, ensuring defensive fire protection is a mandatory prerequisite for the operation of these numerous airports.” https://militaeraktuell.at/basislehrgang-afdru-am-uebungsplatz-tritolwerk/ “This forward-looking and long-term contract with a term of 20 years offers the opportunity to regenerate or replace the entire current fleet of vehicles in this performance class,” says the project manager responsible at the procurement office. The firefighting vehicles used by the Air Force are already almost 50 years old. The vehicles for defensive fire protection in Germany are much younger, built from 2005 onwards, which explains the comparatively long term of the concluded framework agreement. With a 12,500 liter extinguishing water tank and an extendable articulated firefighting arm, the Bundeswehr will receive a state-of-the-art, efficient and powerful firefighting vehicle for missions abroad as well as for national and alliance defence operations. Delivery of the first vehicles is scheduled for 2026. A total of 35 airfield firefighting vehicles are initially to be procured by 2029.

The selection of a single manufacturer for the performance class (8×8) enables modern fleet management and reduces the organizational and bureaucratic effort. Training and the logistics required in operation can also be streamlined as a result.
