With the VLAH (Autonomous Hydramatic Combat Vehicle), the Romanian Romanian armed forces independently developed and produced 4×4 combat vehicle for the first time – and at the same time a NATO-standard-compliant command and information solution. The Danish software specialist Systematic was selected to deploy its Sitaware Frontline battle management and command support system as an integrated standard C2 system on the Blue Space Technology platform.

The VLAH was developed by Blue Space Technology in collaboration with the state-owned Uzina Automecanica Moreni. The prototype of the vehicle was recently presented to the public for the first time in Moreni. By opting for Sitaware Frontline, Romania is relying on a combat-proven C2 solution that is widely used in NATO and ensures full interoperability within the alliance.

By integrating Sitaware Frontline into the VLAH, Systematic is also underlining its support for the Romanian defense industry. The software is being further developed at the Systematic development center in Bucharest, where more than 110 IT professionals – including software engineers, architects, quality assurance specialists and project managers – are working on solutions that are used by allied forces worldwide.

“Supporting European defense industry champions like Blue Space Technology is central to strengthening NATO’s technological edge. With Sitaware Frontline as the standard C2 solution for the VLAH, we are delivering battle-proven software that strengthens Romanian innovation while ensuring full integration into Alliance operations,” said James Hamilton, Systematic’s Vice President Business Development for the UK, Western Europe and North Africa.

Sitaware Frontline equips VLAH vehicles with comprehensive situational awareness and command and control capabilities for the vehicle commander. The system includes advanced cartography with support for various map formats in 2D and 3D, integrated force tracking and planning tools that allow users to focus on mission accomplishment rather than system operation.

Blue Space Technology also emphasizes the strategic importance of the project. “The VLAH is not just a combat vehicle, but concrete proof that Romania can regain its strategic autonomy in the production of defense technologies – at a level that competes with comparable international products. ‘Because it can be done in Romania’ is a registered trademark of our company and an expression of our understanding of the real potential of this economic sector,” says Constantin Pintilie, CEO of BlueSpace Technology.
