On Tuesday the Austrian Armed Forces held a special kind of concert at Vogler Air Base in Hörsching: the rock and pop band “Camouflash” performed on a stage set up on a meadow at the barracks, delighting around 3,500 pupils at the “Rock the Base” end-of-school concert. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner and Upper Austria’s Governor Thomas Stelzer were also in attendance.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “The concert made it impressively clear how versatile and dynamic the armed forces are – a place where tradition meets contemporary impulses. It showed how unifying music can be – across generations and institutions. The Armed Forces presented themselves not only as a military force, but also as a cultural force that inspires and brings together young people in particular.”
Governor Thomas Stelzer was also very pleased and emphasized: “A barracks as a music stage – that is something extraordinary and shows impressively that music works everywhere – even at Vogler Air Base. This concert shows that Upper Austria really is a land of opportunity. Where else can pupils experience such an extraordinary musical experience in such a special setting?”
„Vertrauen kann man nicht befehlen – man muss es sich erarbeiten”
“Camouflash” consists of active and former military musicians and emerged from the ranks of the Upper Austrian Military Band around two years ago. The band performs regularly at various events and recently caused a sensation at the Danube Island Festival in Vienna. The idea for the concert was extremely well received by the Directorate of Education and its music education department.
