With an output of 680 hp, the HX81 from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) is one of the most powerful tractor units ever. The elephant, as it is known in the Bundeswehr, is almost ten meters long and weighs 23 tons – the vehicle has been introduced in the Bundesheer as a 70t heavy-duty transport system.
It is the only tractor that can easily recover, tow and transport a Leopard 2 main battle tank. The current documentary by “Welt Doku” provides an insight into the production of the HX81 at the RMMV plant in Vienna and shows its use in a combat exercise.
