Rheinmetall is from an unspecified NATO-customer to supply Hero Loitering Munition (LM) systems. In total, several hundred systems have been ordered this year, with an order value in the low three-digit million range. Deliveries are scheduled to start at the beginning of 2026 and be completed by the end of the same year. The LM systems are manufactured in Italy by RWM Italia with the support of its partner UVision Air.
The Hero systems ordered are equipped with the latest generation of high-performance anti-tank warheads developed by Rheinmetall. Series production of Loitering Munitions is currently running at full speed at the RWM Italia production facility.
The current product range includes the Hero 30, a small and portable system for infantry use, the Hero 120, a medium-sized system for precision attacks against armored vehicles and fixed installations, and the Hero 400, a medium to long-range LM for precision attacks against fortified positions.
Several European NATO countries are currently customers. Rheinmetall’s drone and loitering ammunition portfolio also includes the Luna NG reconnaissance drone and other drones in various classes. Rheinmetall also cooperates with other well-known companies in this business field, such as Lockheed Martin, Anduril and Auterion.
