Rheinmetall has scored another success in its artillery segment. The Dutch procurement organization DMO recently placed an order with Rheinmetall for the supply of flare and smoke projectiles.

The projectiles are to be introduced to the NATO customer country in mid-2023. The order is worth tens of millions of euros and is part of the multi-year ammunition framework agreement between the Dutch armed forces and Rheinmetall. The contract covers the supply of 155 mm M1808 Base Bleed and M1809 Boat Tail, RH1901 Base Bleed and RH1902 Boat Tail illuminating projectiles. The illuminating bullets belong to the proven Assegai ammunition family and complement the High Explosive bullets already in use. The 155 mm Assegai IR illuminating projectiles are used by artillery troops for battlefield illumination to improve reconnaissance using state-of-the-art night vision devices. The 155 mm smoke projectiles are based on the Rheinmetall smoke technology already in use in NATO forces. The illumination and smoke projectiles have a range of 40 kilometers with the 155-mm L52 howitzer and the modular charging system that has also been introduced. By using the special top charge, the range can be increased by a further 15 percent.
