Rheinmetall Electronics and MBDA Germany have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) at the ILA 2024 in Berlin to close existing capability gaps of the Bundeswehr in the mobile defense of drones in close and short range. To this end, the companies intend to integrate MBDA’s Small Anti Drone Missile into the Skyranger 30 and other Rheinmetall military vehicles.

As is well known, Austria has also decided to integration of the Skyranger tower into the Pandur Evolution from General Dynamics-European Land Systems-Steyr has decided to do so.

Using so-called enforcer technologies, the new guided missile from MBDA is effective against small and medium-sized drones with a high hit probability and correspondingly long range capability. The 30-millimeter cannon on the Skyranger 30 offers highly efficient, mobile defence against airborne threats by combining firepower, intelligent sensor technology and high mobility at shorter ranges. The two weapons therefore complement each other perfectly.

The memorandum of understanding includes a long-term cooperation to integrate the missile into the Skyranger 30 and other military vehicles. The cooperation also aims at the development, production and integration of a launcher into the various turret systems and into Rheinmetall’s digital system architecture. The missile can already be seen as a model on the Skyranger 30 turret at MBDA’s ILA stand. https://militaeraktuell.at/infrastruktur-offensive-am-fliegerhorst-aigen-im-ennstal/ Thomas Gottschild, Managing Director of MBDA Germany: “The current conflicts have clearly shown that drone defense is one of the key challenges facing armed forces. In order to provide the best possible solution, we are joining forces and building on our partnership with Rheinmetall and their turret solutions to close capability gaps in drone defense with the help of our Small Anti Drone Missile.”
