Rheinmetall has handed over 20 more Marder infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukrainian armed forces for their defensive campaign against the Russian aggressor (-> current news from the war in Ukraine). The delivery will take place at the end of the third quarter of 2024. This brings the total number of combat vehicles delivered directly or indirectly – by way of a so-called ring exchange – to Ukraine to around 200.
A three-digit number of these systems are Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles. In addition, Rheinmetall has provided double-digit numbers of Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Leopard main battle tanks in a ring exchange process. The most recent order for the delivery of 20 Marder vehicles, financed by the German government, is worth a mid-double-digit million euro amount. It was already recognized in March 2024.

The Marder is one of the most proven weapon systems of its kind in the world. It was developed for the German Armed Forces and is still used there in part. Over the years, it has been modernized several times and its combat effectiveness increased. In the meantime, the Puma has been introduced into the Bundeswehr and is gradually taking over from the Marder in the army. More than 300 of the ultra-modern infantry fighting vehicles are now in service with the German armed forces.
