The soldiers of the British Army have come another step closer to the Challenger 3. During a visit to the CR3 production line at Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land, a joint venture of Rheinmetall and BAE SystemsDefense Secretary Grant Shapps was briefed on the current status of the program.
The first of eight prototype tanks is already proving its capabilities in trials. The other prototypes are also currently being tested in operational conditions to make any necessary improvements before the 140 Challenger 3s ordered are built and delivered to the British Army. https://militaeraktuell.at/quantum-systems-eroeffnet-drohnenfabrik-in-der-ukraine/ During his visit, Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said: “In an increasingly dangerous world, the need for vehicles like the Challenger 3 is vital as the threats to the UK evolve. This tank will be at the heart of the British Army’s warfighting capability and will make a significant contribution to the UK’s deterrent.” It is planned that this third generation of the Challenger series will remain in service until at least 2040. Compared to previous generations of the series, the tank has a more modern turret with a more powerful smoothbore gun, which is equipped with NATO-ammunition, as well as improved sensors.
