Rheinmetall and XR specialist Varjo announced a strategic partnership at I/ITSEC 2025 in Orlando. The aim is to integrate Varjo’s mixed reality technology into Rheinmetall’s modular driving and weapon simulators to meet Europe’s and NATO’s growing demand for scalable training capabilities.
The core of the project is the use of the new Varjo-XR-4 headsets in Rheinmetall’s deployable training systems. These can be set up quickly at different locations and reconfigured for different vehicle types in just a few minutes. The combination of physical control elements with a high-resolution virtual environment creates an immersive, realistic training scenario – without the need for large stationary simulator centers.

“Mixed reality makes it possible to train large numbers of troops where they are needed without any loss of quality,” emphasizes Bartek Panasewicz, VP Training Systems Land at Rheinmetall Electronics. The solution significantly accelerates NATO’s operational readiness.
Varjo also emphasizes the added value: “Mixed reality brings a decisive advantage for land training – with lower costs and greater flexibility,” says Valentin Storz, CRO of Varjo. According to a recent press release from the two companies, the XR-4 headsets offer “extremely high image definition, lifelike pass-through vision and advanced eye tracking”. This allows instructors to analyze soldiers’ behavior in detail – from instrument use to stress management.
