Tourniquets are a hot topic again: they save lives in traffic accidents, on the mountain or in military conflicts – if you know how to use them and make the right choice. In order to get an orientation on the market, we had three experts from Critical Knowledge test common “TQs” for Ranger Magazine (made by Militär Aktuell) for their practicality (-> To the large test overview).

RapidStop tourniquet

RapidStop tourniquet in the test -©Sebastian Freiler

The RapidStop tourniquet uses high-quality individual components. The fastener, which is reminiscent of a snowboard binding, is made of plastic and metal parts. This tourniquet is tightened with the straps and then the pressure is increased with the ratchet-like fastener. To loosen or open the tightened tourniquet, there is a small lever under the main buckle that releases the locking mechanism again, but this is difficult to coordinate, especially when putting on the upper limb yourself when the buckle is not in your field of vision. The plus points of this innovative product are that no skin pinching has occurred and little force is required to tighten the mechanism.
