On December 28, Major General Bruno Günter Hofbauer was confirmed as Deputy Chief of the General Staff. He prevailed against five other high-ranking officers in an application process and will therefore be appointed as Head of the Capabilities and Policy Planning Directorate in the General Staff, which he has headed on an interim basis since 2021, and thus as Deputy Chief of General Staff as soon as possible.
