Some will know John Patrick Platzer as the president of the charitable association “Soldaten mit Herz”. This time, the man from Klagenfurt is once again making himself heard musically. In his role as information officer of the Carinthian military command, Platzer has already caused two viral internet hits with his “military raps” about the military music festivals in Mörbisch (-> Review of the eighth military music festival in Mörbisch) and in Klagenfurt’s Wörthersee Stadium (-> Military music festival thrilled 12,000 visitors). This year he completes the “Rap Trilogy” in Lower Austria. “Viral again, for the Military Music Festival (May 22 and 23, -> Outlook for the Military Music Festival 2024), in Grafenegg I’m getting going this time, because the military rapper is at it again”, is the first verse of Platzer’s new song (-> Interview with John Patrick Platzer).
His Lower Austrian commander, press officer Major Sebastian Schubert, got to know Platzer last year at the military music festival in the Wörthersee stadium. It was already clear to Schubert then that Platzer should also make his “rap skills” available for the event in Grafenegg: “Platzer is proof that the armed forces can also rely on and build on the skills and talents of our militiamen.”
Platzer describes the program in the rap and also gives a preview of the musical line-up at the grand finale in Grafenegg. The video for the rap was released on May 15 by the Austrian Armed Forces and is intended to inspire the younger audience in particular for the event, at which more than 600 musicians from Austrian military bands will perform. Platoon leader Platzer is humble: “As a musician and rapper, it is an honor for me to be part of the Military Music Festival and to help shape Austria’s cultural landscape. The opportunity to present my rap for the largest musical event of the Austrian Armed Forces fills me with gratitude and humility.” 2024 marks the finale of his role as a rapper for the Military Music Festival, which is why the last verse reads: “One last time for the music festival. I’m signing off, it’s been fun. Thank you, that’s it!” The 35-year-old from Klagenfurt and former Antenne Kärnten news rapper shows courage with his idea and – as in the past two years – acts as a creative reporter for the Military Music Festival throughout Austria.
