As part of the national deterrence and defense program “Shield East”, the Polish military procured two so-called “Ultimate Building Machines” (UBM). The mobile plants from the US company MIC Industries are all-terrain factories on wheels for the production of prefabricated steel components for buildings.
Under this contract, one of these machines was delivered to the 2nd Engineer Regiment in Inowrocław and one to the 16th Airport Repair Battalion in Jarocin.

At the construction site, the system can bend self-supporting structures from sheet steel. This technology enables the rapid construction of infrastructure at military sites such as hangars, garages, warehouses and shelters. In the context of civil defense and disaster control, UBM technology is also suitable for the rapid construction of refugee shelters, field hospitals or catering stations.
Thanks to UBM’s involvement, construction should be cheaper and faster, without the need for external contractors or lengthy tenders.
According to the manufacturer of the UBM machines, the structures meet high safety standards, including European CE conformity. UBM buildings are virtually maintenance-free as they are waterproof, rustproof, earthquake-proof and fireproof. They are also designed to withstand extreme weather conditions such as heavy snowfall and storms.
In Poland, a team of researchers from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy at the Military University of Technology has built three reference facilities. These were tested for their resistance to fire and drone attacks – the results of these tests were “more than satisfactory”, they said.
The Polish pioneers are currently in the practical training phase and are constructing buildings under the supervision of American instructors. The facility, measuring around 20 × 19 × 9 meters, is being erected on concrete foundations and will serve as a warehouse for UBM machines at the Łojewo training center once it is completed. The construction is also intended to provide experience that can be used to develop guidelines for other pioneer units.
