At the Eurosatory in Paris in mid-June, the Finnish company Patria presented the All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) concept vehicle developed as part of the FAMOUS program at the company’s own stand. The project was co-financed by the European Defense Industrial Development Program (EDIDP).
The aim of the FAMOUS (Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems) program is to improve the performance of new and existing armoured vehicles with the help of EU funding. According to Patria, the results of the program achieved so far clearly show that the new tracked vehicle platform will be a multi-purpose solution for all types of operations.
“The FAMOUS program is fully in line with the European Commission’s objective to strengthen the competitiveness and innovation capability of the EU defence industry,” said Mikko Karppinen, Senior Vice President, Protected Mobility and Defence Systems at Patria. “We are very proud to present this concept vehicle for armored personnel carriers developed with the support of the FAMOUS program. We have now reached the proof of concept phase and can test the performance of the future solution in the field.”
The vehicle solution under development is a high-performance platform suitable for different geographical environments, including extreme climates. The vehicle under development will have excellent tactical and operational mobility. Other priorities include the vehicle’s survivability, cost and modularity. The lead nation is Finland, Patria is the industrial coordinator of the FAMOUS program. A total of nine countries and 18 European defense companies are involved in the project.
