On May 24 Patria opened a new production facility for armored vehicles in Valmiera, Latvia. In future, all work steps for the production of Patria 6×6 armored vehicles (-> Insights into the vehicle) can be covered. The Latvian armed forces have already ordered more than 200 vehicles in 2021.

“Patria’s success in its market-leading armored vehicles and related programs, where the unique, joint Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program plays the key role, is the reason for opening this new facility in Latvia,” said Esa Rautalinko, President and CEO of Patria. “We at Patria are proud of the close cooperation with Latvia and the Latvian Armed Forces. The Latvian Ministry of Defense has ordered more than 200 Patria 6×6 armored vehicles in 2021, to be delivered by 2029. This cooperation agreement is intended to strengthen the combat capabilities of the Latvian armed forces. Uģis Romanovs, Chairman of the Board of Defence Partnership Latvia and Patria Latvia, said: “Our new plant will focus on the delivery of armored personnel carriers ordered by the Latvian Armed Forces, but we are actively working to ensure that our plant also implements other projects to develop the capabilities of the Latvian Armed Forces and produces military equipment for the armed forces of other countries.”

The Patria 6×6 vehicle was selected as the platform for the CAVS program, in which Finland, Latvia, Sweden and Germany are already participating. Germany are already participating. The CAVS-related Patria 6×6 deliveries are currently going not only to Latvia, but also to Finland and Sweden. The vehicles are already in use there. The program is open to other European countries with similar equipment requirements, provided the participating countries agree.
