How the Finnish company Patria has announced that deliveries of new acoustic mine sweeping systems to the Royal Norwegian Navy have been completed. The Norwegian Navy has been relying on Patria’s SONAC ACS minesweeping systems since spring 2024.
This is a compact and lightweight acoustic search system that is easy to integrate, handle and operate in modern UPS-based mine clearance operations.
The Royal Norwegian Navy now has one of the most advanced acoustic minesweepers, as confirmed by the squadron commander, Commander Bengt Berdal: “We are pleased to deploy the Patria SONAC ACS as part of our MCM minesweeping system, following the recent decommissioning of our high quality ELMA-AGATE minesweeper. The SONAC ACS has so far shown excellent handling and promising performance, operation and reliability. The Norwegian Navy considers this new minesweeper to be one of the most advanced minesweepers currently in service.”
Patria SONAC ACS is an important instrument for the efficient clearance of minefields. It outperforms advanced minesweeping algorithms due to its acoustics, which generate high sound pressure over a wide frequency range. Patria SONAC ACS can simulate any ship sound and is suitable for mine-setting mode (MSM) and target simulation mode (TSM).
The remote control of the acoustic sweeper is easy and simple to operate in real time. During operation, the operator selects the desired acoustic signal to initiate the acoustic sweep. Alternatively, the operator can also design a customized signal for the acoustic sweep if required. During the sweep, smooth operation is enabled by an interface that provides controls and settings for the sweep as well as views to monitor system status.
