The 76th Officers’ Ball is history: under the motto “Europe dances”, this year’s event once again attracted more than 3,000 guests from the worlds of politics, business, culture and of course the military to the Vienna Hofburg.

The evening began with the ceremonial entry of the Young Ladies’ and Young Gentlemen’s Committee. The guests were then treated to a varied program in the magnificent halls of the Hofburg, including vocal performances by Claire Craig and Martin Lechleitner, and the Austrian Military Music Show Orchestra presented the world premiere of the “Parade March”.

This was followed by welcoming and opening remarks from Chief of Staff Rudolf Striedinger (who is also President of the “Alt-Neustadt” association, which organizes the Officers’ Ball) and from Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner.

“The participation of our European partners stands for the European spirit, the friendly exchange between armed forces and underlines the importance of cooperation for the peace, stability and security of the Union,” said Chief of Staff Rudolf Striedinger.

“Networking is more important than ever. In a time of crises and wars, it is all the more important to work and stand together, to network. And that is why the motto ‘Europe dances’ is perfectly chosen. The ball will certainly be used for many intensive discussions,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.

The midnight performance was also a highlight. The traditional audience quadrille took place under the guidance of the Elmayer dance school.

Among the guests were high-ranking representatives of the Austrian Armed Forces such as General Robert Brieger (Chairman of the EU Military Committee), Chief of Staff Rudolf Striedinger, Chief of Planning Lieutenant General Bruno Hofbauer (-> Interview with Militär Aktuell: “We’re really picking up the pace!”), Lieutenant General Martin Dorfer, Air Chief Major General Gerfried Promberger and Chief of Armaments Major General Harald Vodosek. Delegations from foreign partner nations and high-ranking company representatives, including from General Dynamics European Land Systems, Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin.

The motto was a tribute to the 30th anniversary of Austria’s accession to the European Union. However, 70 years of the Austrian Armed Forces, 210 years of the Congress of Vienna and the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss Sohn were also celebrated.
