No “fire out” yet in the Liezen district. Since Friday afternoon, a large forest fire in the area of the Grafenbergalm near Weißenbach near Haus im Ennstal has been keeping the emergency services busy. Since yesterday, the Austrian Armed Forces has also been supporting the firefighting efforts from the ground and from the air. A total of around 30 soldiers and eight helicopters from the Austrian Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior have been deployed.
The air and ground operations are coordinated by the Austrian Armed Forces. In addition to firefighters from the fire department and the armed forces, so-called air-portable “bumby buckets” are also used, with which up to 1,000 liters of extinguishing water can be transported by helicopter to the site of the fire and discharged there. https://militaeraktuell.at/die-slowakei-baut-sich-ihren-eigenen-sky-shield/ “The armed forces are thus once again demonstrating their operational readiness in the air and on the ground when sufficient resources are available,” says Defence Minister Klaudia Tanner. “With addition of the new AW169 we will be able to expand this capability even further. We also see the necessity and correctness of the new acquisitions in this area in order to make the Armed Forces fit for the challenges of the future.” The deployment of the Austrian Armed Forces takes place at over 1,200 meters above sea level and is intended to fight the fire in the Dachstein area, which has now spread to over two hectares.
