Current developments in Ukraine make it clear that the future of warfare is unmanned, with reconnaissance, FPV and specialized drones dominating the battlefield – and they are also becoming increasingly important for transport and logistics tasks in the hinterland.
In response to this development, the German manufacturer ODM has developed the fully modular Tano Concept Family and presented suitable expansion modules for the first time at the AFCEA in Bonn.
Unlike monolithic systems with limited adaptability, Tano is based on an openly structured modular principle that allows mission modules to be changed quickly – from electro-optical reconnaissance and logistical load transport to stationary surveillance.
“This modularity is not an add-on, but the core of the concept,” as ODM puts it.
New modules for additional skills
At the AFCEA in Bonn, ODM is currently presenting the new expansion modules for the Green Cube model for the first time, which can also be retrofitted to all Tano platforms. Militär Aktuell has been given an exclusive preview:
-
Tano Parachute Recovery System (PRS): A mechanical spring-based parachute system enables a controlled landing in an emergency. This protects transported goods and uninvolved third parties in the area of operation.
-
Tano Precision Drop: For tactical supplies, emergency aid or special missions. The module enables the precise and controlled delivery of small quantities – such as medicines – even in impassable or enemy-controlled terrain.
-
Tano ISR+: This module offers precise real-time reconnaissance and monitoring with AI-supported image analysis – in all light and weather conditions. This allows objects and people to be reliably detected, identified and tracked.
-
Tano Tethered ISR module: For permanent, spectrum-discrete surveillance missions. Thanks to a continuous power supply, the system achieves unlimited flight time and remains invisible to electronic reconnaissance – ideal for highly sensitive missions where radio signals pose a risk.
