The Hungarian Defense Forces (HDF) has taken delivery of 56 new Gidráns from Turkish manufacturer Nurol Makina. The 4×4 tactical vehicle is a Turkish-Hungarian collaboration and, according to the Hungarian Ministry of Defense, “one of the most successful initiatives of the Hungarian Defense Forces, which also contributes to the HDF’s ability to meet the new capability declarations of NATO fulfill”.

The Hungarian Minister of Defense, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, said a few days ago after a visit to the Turkish plant: “We procured the tactical Gidrán vehicles – of which 56 more have now been handed over – in order to develop the land and special operations capabilities of the HDF.”

The Gidrán 4×4 multi-purpose armored vehicle is manufactured by the Turkish company Nurol Makina and is equipped with Hungarian developments. For example, the supplementary electronic, signaling, radar and weapon systems are integrated into the vehicles in Hungary. Its survivability is ensured by an anti-mine system and special armor. The remote-controlled weapon station, a night vision camera and a heavy machine gun also make the vehicle versatile.

“I am pleased to say that we have gained valuable experience with Gidrán tactical vehicles not only in operations, but also in economic cooperation and defense procurement. We also have excellent cooperation with Nurol Makina, and our aim is to expand our relations with other Turkish companies,” said Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.
