Processing the collection and strengthening the areas of exhibitions and mediation
The HGM’s collection, which currently ranges from the 16th to the 20th century, will be extended into the 21st century, with a focus on “Military and Society”. A newly formed curatorial team will further develop the exhibition areas and manage them on the basis of current scientific and public discourse. Georg Hoffmann, Director of the Museum of Military History, explains: “The Head of the Collections and Exhibitions Department and Chief Curator is one of the most important positions at the Museum of Military History and is of central importance for the modernization and development of the museum. As part of the museum’s new organizational plan, not only the collection activities, but also the newly created exhibition system, object management and museum education will be anchored here in future. We are thus taking another major step towards a modern museum institution that sees itself as a scientific discussion platform. I am therefore looking forward to receiving many applicants for this important position.”
“Preserving and expanding the museum’s collection and preparing it for visitors is not only a necessary task in order to preserve the country’s cultural heritage, but also a particularly worthwhile one in terms of spiritual national defense.”
Verteidigungsministerin Klaudia Tanner.
