The Norwegian government has ordered Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace new NASAMS air defense systems. The contract is worth around 122 million euros and deliveries are expected between 2026 and 2027.

The contract with the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency includes new launch units for several missiles and new fire control centers for NASAMS. This is intended to replace the equipment handed over to Ukraine over the past two years. The delivery means that Norway now has the latest generation of NASAMS. Thanks to the system’s open architecture, it is equipped with new technologies and can also be adapted to changing threat situations in the future.

Norway’s Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram said: “These are investments that secure the country. The war in Ukraine has shown how important air defense is, and before Christmas the Norwegian government was able to hand over a record order for air defense to the Norwegian Armed Forces. We have taken extraordinary measures to accelerate the takeover. The contract for the replacement of donated material is the first step.”

The original Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASASMS) was delivered to the Norwegian armed forces back in the 1990s. Today, 13 nations belong to the NASAMS user group.
