The Ukrainian secret service SBU has released video footage showing a huge explosion on one of the bridge piers (-> current news from the Ukraine war). According to the SBU, the bridge was severely damaged by the detonation of 1,100 kilograms of explosives and is “in critical condition”.

“The operation lasted several months,” explains the SBU on Telegram. “Our agents mined the pillars of this illegal structure. Today at 04:44 the first explosive device was detonated – without civilian casualties.”

This is already the third major attack on the bridge that connects the Russian mainland with the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed in 2014 in violation of international law. The wording chosen by the SBU also leaves open the possibility that further explosive devices were attached to other piers.
