The Institute for Peacekeeping and Conflict Management (IFK) at the National Defense Academy regularly holds events, presentations and research trips.
Event
As a founding member of the International Society of Military Sciences (ISMS), the National Defense Academy (LVAk) held the presidency of the society for the second time this year. Under the motto “Building Military Science for the Benefit of Society”, the LVAk hosted the annual conference of the ISMS from November 18 to 20. The organizational, administrative, financial and, in some cases, content-related aspects of the event were mainly handled by IFK employees.

An exciting discussion group gathered in Klagenfurt on October 24. Christine Muttonen, Heinz Gärtner, Thomas Seifert and Brigadier Walter Feichtinger from the Institute for Peacekeeping and Conflict Management debated nuclear armament and international crises at the Renner Institute Carinthia. There was no end to the questions from the audience. After two and a half hours, host and moderator Harald Koller regretfully brought the event to a close.

Parliamentarians from six countries attended the seminar “The Role of Parliament in Security Sector Governance and Oversight” in Switzerland. And one of the speakers was Colonel Hans Lampalzer from the IFK. The role of parliament and its contribution to good governance and oversight in the security sector was the focus of the seminar, which was recently held in Geneva at the invitation of the Partnership for Peace Consortium and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF).
High-ranking visitor to the IFK
Brigadier Walter Feichtinger and the researchers from the Institute for Peacekeeping and Conflict Management welcomed a Finnish delegation to the National Defense Academy in mid-November. The delegation was informed about the IFK’s research structures, methods and activities. The ambassador showed particular interest in the Institute’s numerous publications and policy papers on current crises and conflicts.
