On January 18, more than 250 guests from politics, the clergy, business and the military celebrated the New Year’s reception of the 3rd Jägerbrigade in the Stadtsaal in Krems. The event included a review of 2023, a look ahead to 2024 and awards for achievements in the past year.
Review of the year and outlook
In his review of the year, Brigade Commander Brigadier Christian Habersatter emphasized the special achievements of the brigade’s soldiers. Habersatter also pointed out that the 3rd Jäger Brigade strives to fulfill current tasks at home and abroad in the best possible way. The commander pointed out the current threat situation and the prevailing centers of conflict in and around Europe and the resulting need to focus the brigade on the core military task of the Armed Forces – military national defense. Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner mentioned the investments already made to cope with the prevailing threat situation. “Every euro invested in the Austrian Armed Forces is an investment in Austria’s security,” said Tanner.

Awards for special achievements
A number of soldiers were honored for their outstanding achievements. The Minister personally presented the awards to the winners at the annual reception. Major Martin Horn received the “Role Model of the Militia” award, while this year’s Innovation Award went to the tank workshop of Jäger Battalion 17 together with Lieutenant Colonel Andreas Schober. Deputy Officer Stefan Maikisch was awarded the “Role Model as Commander” prize, the “Unit of the Year” was the water-mobile engineer company of the Melk Pioneers, and Vice-Lieutenant Manfred Harhofer was awarded the “Role Model as Non-Commissioned Officer” prize. Major Michael König received the “Exemplary Officer” award, while Staff Constable Gernot Stummvoll, Deputy Officer Roland Plech and Staff Constable Nico Kotrba received the special lifesaver award.
