The Spanish Navy has Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace a contract worth 305 million euros for the delivery of Naval Strike Missiles (NSM). The first ship class to be equipped with NSMs will be the F-110 class frigates currently under construction at Navantia.

The missiles will later also be used on the F-100 class frigates during their mid-life update and on future ships. The Spanish Navy has already opted for NSM in 2022. The missiles will be purchased through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). https://militaeraktuell.at/die-usa-planen-ihr-verteidigungsbudget-2025/ Kongsberg will sign a parallel cooperation agreement with the Directorate General of Armaments and Materiel (DiGAM), which will form the basis for the development of an industrial plan. This includes the possibility of becoming part of the global missile supply chain and a proposal to establish a maintenance capability for NSM at the Rota naval base. The company expects the contract to lead to further cooperation between the Spanish Navy, the NSPA and Kongsberg itself. Ideally, other NATO members should also be encouraged to acquire the NSM.
