Today, the new Armed Forces Command was established at a military ceremony in the Belgian barracks in the presence of Defense Minister Mario Kunasek.
“I am delighted that the new structure will enable our Armed Forces to perform their tasks even more effectively than before; for the security of our homeland Austria at home and abroad,” said Defense Minister Kunasek.

With the Army Reorganization 2019, the Armed Forces are adapting to new internal and external challenges. By merging land and air forces as well as command support into one command, these branches of the armed forces will work together optimally for operations at home and abroad. The two locations in Graz and Salzburg will be retained and further strengthened. The next step in the Army’s 2019 reorganization will take place next Friday, 5 April at 11:00 a.m., when the new Armed Forces Base will be established at the Heckenast-Burian Barracks in Vienna.
