From April 13 to 24, soldiers from the 3rd Armored Infantry Brigade trained in the “Dynamic Response” exercise at the Allentsteig military training area in the “Delay” and “Attack” modes of operation. The exercise scenario: based on a UN resolution, an EU-led multinational intervention force (EUFOR) was deployed to a fictitious country. Although the parties to the conflict were separated and a demilitarized zone was established, violent clashes between the warring parties broke out again after years of stability. The EU force was now supposed to prevent further escalation.
The Austrian units were supported by soldiers from Panzerbrigade 21 from Germany and the 7th mechanized brigade of the Czech army. A total of 1,400 soldiers took part in the exercise with numerous armored vehicles (including Leopard 2A4s from the Austrian army and 2A6s from the German army) as well as helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from the Austrian army.
