The Estonian company Milrem Robotics has received an order to supply unmanned THeMIS ground vehicles to the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. Japan will receive three THeMIS UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicles) configured for various tasks, including supply transportation and reconnaissance. The vehicles are also equipped with the Milrem Intelligent Functions Kit (MIFIK), which enables them to carry out autonomous operations on the road and in the field.

With MIFIK, operators can plan missions using waypoint navigation and define the behavior of the vehicles during the journey.

Verbesserungen für Soldatinnen und Soldaten

The Japanese Ministry of Defense has selected the THeMIS UGV as part of the newly introduced Rapid Acquisition Program. The model is already in use in 16 countries, including Germany, the USA and the UK. In the Ukraine war the vehicles are supporting the Ukrainian soldiers.

The CEO of Milrem Robotics, Kuldar Väärsi, said: “The goal of Ground Self-Defense Forces is to fundamentally strengthen their defense capabilities with unmanned means to achieve asymmetric superiority while limiting human casualties. A task for which UGV are uniquely qualified.”
